In September we sent out an update on the most recent party switchers from Sabine and Jefferson Counties. (Click here to read that update) Since that time, twenty-eight more Democrats have switched over to the Republican Party in the same time period!

The Republican Party of Texas is proud to welcome previously Democrat officials from Jones, Fayette, Irion, Hopkins, Bowie, Borden, Leon, Tyler, Clay, Fannin, Cottle, and Kent Counties into the Republican Party. These twenty-eight officials join over 230 other Democrat elected officials to switch over to the Republican Party since 2008. Two of the party switchers were County Commissioners from the same county, which means that the Republican Party added an additional county to the number of County Commissioners Courts in which Republicans have the majority. That means Republicans hold a majority on 169 of the 254 County Commissioner Courts in Texas; or more than 2/3 of the counties in the state.

With the addition of these twenty-two new party switchers, not only do Republicans hold the majority in over 2/3 of the state’s counties, but it also brings the total number of Republican elected officials gained since 2008 up to a staggering 929. Now if only the Republican Party could get the same amount of coverage in the press regarding our 233 party switchers since 2008, as Texas Democrats get when they have had just two party switchers in the same period of time, maybe the Democrats in Washington wouldn’t be so hopeful about turning our great conservative state blue in the near future.
