Chairman James Dickey on Joaquin Castro Possibly Entering the Texas Senate Race
Joaquin Castro Has Established an Anti-Texas Record

AUSTIN, TX – A story recently released by Texas Monthly alluded to the possibility of Joaquin Castro throwing his hat into the race against Texas Senator John Cornyn. Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“It’s hard to believe Joaquin Castro would attempt to run to represent all Texans in spite of the vote he cast AGAINST tax relief for Hurricane Harvey victims. His actions have shown he simply doesn’t care for all Texans.”

Congressman Castro voted “NO” on the bill that, according to the Dallas Morning News, would grant Hurricane Harvey victims tax relief and allow them to access their 401(k) and other retirement accounts without tax penalties, allow victims to write off property losses caused by Harvey, allow for tax credits to businesses hiring in disaster areas, and remove limits on charitable tax deductions for donations related to the hurricane.

Chairman Dickey continued:

“At a time when Texans needed support from their Congressional delegation most, Castro broke with his fellow Texas Congressmen to vote against helping Texans. He continued to vote against Hurricane Harvey relief for Texans multiple times. When Congress was trying to deliver a budget, which included $90 billion in federal aid for disaster relief, Castro voted again for party over Texans. If he’s not willing to fight for Texans after a natural disaster, when they need help the most, we know Texans simply cannot ever count on him. Casto’s poor record is a stark contrast to the leadership Senator John Cornyn demonstrated in delivering vital Hurricane Harvey aid to Texans who badly needed it.”

Congressman Castro took a step further left when he co-sponsored the Green New Deal Resolution filed by Democrat-Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The Green New Deal Resolution would cost a staggering $93 trillion, which would be charged to the hardworking taxpayers of America.

Chairman Dickey concluded:

“Joaquin Castro continues to make it clear that he is too liberal for Texas. He has co-sponsored the terrible Green New Deal Resolution filed by self avowed Democrat-Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. This is not something Texans want and neither is Joaquin Castro.”
