Democrats Willfully Mislead Texans About Pro-Life Bill

AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Democratic Party issued a press release falsely claiming “Texas Republicans push death penalty for doctors who perform abortions.” Texas House Bill 2350 would create a civil penalty against anyone who performs an abortion should the U.S. Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade.

Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“The Democrats have chosen to willfully mislead Texans about the nature of a bill that would protect human life. The bill filed by Representative Capriglione would create a civil penalty for those who perform an abortion in the state of Texas. It would neither make having an abortion punishable by death nor punish women for having an abortion, contrary to false statements by Texas Democrats. It is wildly ironic that Democrats are feigning concern about capital punishment while supporting policies that condemn millions of babies to needlessly die in the womb and even after birth.”

When we asked for a comment on HB 2350, Representative Giovanni Capriglione stated:

“As a father and a man of faith, I believe life is God’s greatest gift. That’s why I’m proud to author HB 2350 to protect the lives of the unborn in the event that Roe v Wade is overturned. While I am trying to protect innocent life, the radical left is working to legalize late term abortions and even infanticide. It comes as no surprise that these extreme pro-abortion Democrats would lie about my bill.”

Chairman James Dickey concluded:

“The Texas Democrats have followed national Democrats as they advocate for more and more extreme ideas and intentionally mislead the public about pro-life policies. We commend our Republican elected officials who are leading the way toward meaningful change which would benefit all Texans. The Texas Democrats should be ashamed for their blatant deception and intent to mislead Texans.”
