Democrats Lack Plan to Secure the Border and Ignore the Safety and Security of Americans

AUSTIN, TX – During the month of April, Border Patrol stopped over 109,000 attempted border crossings -the highest level in over a decade. These numbers have continued to rise, but Democrats continue to deny any problem at the border – despite the Texas Senate passing a resolution affirming the crisis at the border. Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“It’s time for Democrats to stop ignoring the facts – there is a crisis at the border. Over 109,000 encounters in the month of April alone is staggering. What’s worse, this number says nothing of the countless who have illegally crossed our border without getting caught.”

Few, if any, Democrat presidential hopefuls have accepted that we have a problem at the border. Candidates like Beto O’Rourke continue to push for open borders and even advocate tearing down existing border fences and Julian Castro called for decriminalizing illegal border crossings.

Chairman Dickey continued:

“This willful ignorance of the crisis at the border will hurt Democrats almost as much as it hurts Americans. They continue to blindly follow their Party’s leadership and show they don’t care about issues that affect all Americans, especially Texas and other border states. Drugs are pouring through the border, hundreds of thousands of migrants are crossing the border illegally, and human traffickers and violent gangs are taking advantage of our border and those wanting to come to the United States. Democrats have shown they don’t care for the safety and security of millions of Americans who live along the border.”

Republican leadership has pushed to appropriate $4.5 billion to address the humanitarian crisis at the border – $3 billion for increasing shelter capacity, food, and water, $1 billion for border operations, and $100 million to fund mission support.

Chairman Dickey concluded:

“We are thankful that Republican leadership, both nationally and in Texas, have not only acknowledged that there is a problem at the border, but are actively taking steps to address the crisis. It’s time for Democrats to stop blindly obstructing and instead work with Republicans to address this very real crisis.”
