In Committee this Week

RPT-Designated Priority Bills:

• Chairman Dennis Bonnen laid out a tax cut package for the House this week that included both reductions to the franchise tax and to sales tax.

• The Senate Finance Committee passed its budget out of committee. This will be heading to the floor of the Senate next week.

• SB1968, the Paycheck Protection bill, was heard in the State Affairs Committee this week. Beth Cubriel, Executive Director of the RPT, testified in favor of this bill on behalf of the party. This is designated as an RPT priority, as it relates to the defense of free speech, by protecting workers from subsidizing political campaigns they may not support.

• HB1690, the House bill removing the Public Integrity Unit from the Travis County DA’s office, was voted favorably out of Committee this week.

On the Floor this Week

RPT-Designated Priority Bills:

• SB9, which tightens the state’s spending cap, has passed the Senate.

• SB10, the Senate bill removing the Public Integrity Unit from the Travis County DA’s office passed the Senate this week. RPT supports the transfer of the PIU from the Travis County DA’s office to an impartial state-wide office.

• HB5, a Strategic Fiscal Review process that ensures state agencies are operating as efficiently as possible, passed the House.

• HB910 has been placed on the general state calendar for next week.
