AUSTIN, TX – Nominee for the Supreme Court of the United States, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, began his Senate confirmation hearing today. Texas is in a unique and special position to have both of its U.S. Senators as members of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee. The Democrats on the same powerful committee shamefully stalled the start of the committee hearing opening the day with a 77-minute filibuster. Senator John Cornyn aptly called the obstructive antics an attempt of “mob rule”, poignantly describing the planned, desperate, destructive tactics of the Democrats.

“While the Democrats would seek to politicize the Supreme Court by obstructing confirmation at all costs, Republicans like Texas’ own Senator Cornyn and Senator Cruz are working to ensure the Constitution is upheld by the highest court in the nation. They know Texas and know that Texans demand a jurist who will be a strong constitutionalist on the Supreme Court and not make law or legislate from the bench. Senator Cruz and Senator Cornyn got right to the heart of this demand today and made it clear that Brett Kavanaugh will uphold the original intent of the Constitution,” said RPT Chairman James Dickey. “Texans are excited for the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh and we look forward to the opportunity to seeing Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination pass the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House, so he may serve immediately as the next Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.”
