The Republican Party of Texas is saddened to learn over the holiday of the passing of one of our most generous supporters, Mr. Harold Simmons.

Upon learning of Mr. Simmons passing, RPT Chairman Steve Munisteri said, “Mr. Simmons’ death is a great loss to our state and country. Not only was Harold a generous donor to many charitable organizations, he was the RPT’s biggest donor, giving over $400,000 since I became chairman. More telling of Mr. Simmons’ character is that he never asked for publicity or recognition for his contributions. In fact, after receiving our first contribution from Mr. Simmons, which was unsolicited, I called to thank him. Expecting that his secretary would answer the phone, I was surprised when Mr. Simmons answered his own line. Furthermore, consistent with his personality, Mr. Simmons was gracious and humble in the conversation we had that day. He always gave out of a sincere desire to support the republican philosophy that reduces government regulation to stimulate business development and create jobs.”

Chairman Munisteri continued his sentiments by noting that Mr. Simmons was a true example of the American dream. He bought a small grocery store at age 29 and turned that business into a $10 billion fortune. Along the way he was generous and kind and a true patriot. The Republican Party of Texas would like to extend condolences to the entire Simmons family as they mourn the loss of this very special man.
