Republican Party of Texas Announces Legislative Review Task Force and Key Dates for Rule 44 Resolutions
- Jordan Leighty
AUSTIN, TX — As announced at the Second Quarter State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) meeting in Austin on June 13–14, Chairman Abraham George has named a Legislative Review Task Force to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the 89th Legislature.
The Legislative Review Task Force, a group of SREC members, will present its final report and recommendations to the full SREC at a special meeting on August 9 in Austin. Upon approval by the SREC, the report will be shared with county parties, who will then have until September 6 to submit all Rule No. 44 resolutions to the SREC for consideration. On October 11, the SREC will hold a special meeting in Austin to consider Rule No. 44 censures received from county parties across the state. All Texas Republican legislators are invited to attend these special meetings.
The thirteen SREC members of the Legislative Review Task Force are:
· Lisa Hendrickson (SD 12) – Chair
· Adolpho Telles (SD 29)
· Rolando Garcia (SD 15)
· Chuck Burnett (SD 20)
· Leslie Thomas (SD 22) – Legislative Priorities Committee Co-Chair
· Jerry Fisher (SD 2) – Legislative Priorities Committee Co-Chair
· Rachel Horton (SD 30) – Border Enforcement Legislative Priority Subcommittee Chair
· Andy Eller (SD 24) – Secure Texas Elections Legislative Priority Subcommittee Chair
· Christin Bentley (SD 1) – Stop Sexualizing Texas’ Kids Legislative Priority Subcommittee Chair
· Deborah Fite (SD 7) – No Democrat Chairs Legislative Priority Subcommittee Chair and Texas is Not for Sale Legislative Priority Subcommittee Chair
· Jeneria Lewis (SD 27) – Ban Taxpayer-Funded Lobbying Legislative Priority Subcommittee Chair
· Dr. Milinda Morris (SD 13) – Secure the Electric Grid Legislative Priority Subcommittee Chair
· Jon Ker (SD 22) – End Federal Overreach Legislative Priority Subcommittee Chair
The Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Chairman and Secretary will serve in an ex officio capacity to ensure transparency and consistency with party procedures.
The Legislative Review Task Force will apply an objective framework, including:
· Actions related to leadership and rules votes
· Consideration of all conservative priorities and relevant bills over the entire session
· Evaluation of actions related to the core principles of the Republican Party of Texas defined in the Preamble of the Party Platform as described in Rule No. 43A or to the Legislative Priorities adopted at the most recent State Convention as described in Rule No. 34(c)
· Consideration of bill authorship and sponsorship, with emphasis on efforts to pass conservative legislation
· Consideration of committee assignments and actions
· Public statements and actions
County parties are encouraged to submit concerns and evidence to the Legislative Review Task Force for review. During this time, county parties are asked to pause all Rule No. 44 resolutions until the report is finally approved by the SREC. This preserves due process and ensures that the RPT speaks with one voice on major accountability matters.
