Houston- “We’re deeply honored to celebrate Juneteenth today, in memory of the abolition of slavery in Texas. This morning U.S. Senator Tim Scott and State Senator Larry Taylor discussed the value of empowering parents in their children’s education, and it was very powerful to see the impact being made by empowered parents and dedicated educators in the African-American community in Houston. While Juneteenth commemorates an event that occurred more than 150 years ago, Texas Republicans recognize the importance of that legacy and its meaning in today’s society.  The message and memory of Juneteenth still resonates in this country, as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is proclaimed by our Declaration of Independence, which is what sets us apart from the rest of the world. We will continue to support ways all Texans and Americans can enjoy the freedoms endowed by our Creator.
