AUSTIN, TX – On Friday and Saturday, the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) convened in Austin for its Second Quarter Meeting, where overwhelming majority of members voted to amend Rule 46—a vital step to restrict participation in our primary elections to Republicans only.

This amendment clarifies, strengthens, and solidifies our Party’s commitment to ensuring that only Republican voters decide Republican nominees. The move reflects the will of Texas grassroots conservatives and honors the clear directive from the delegates of the 2024 State Convention, who voted overwhelmingly to close our primaries.

“As Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, I am fully committed to upholding the rules, priorities, and platform adopted by our delegates,” said Chairman Abraham George. “This is not just about a rule change—it’s about protecting the integrity of our elections and defending the voice of our conservative base.”

For too long, open primaries have allowed Democrats and progressive activists to manipulate Republican outcomes, weakening our candidates and diluting our values. With this amendment, the Republican Party of Texas sends a clear message: we will not allow our nomination process to be hijacked.

This is part of a broader conservative mission—to protect election integrity, party sovereignty, and the principles that make Texas strong: faith, family, freedom, limited government, secure borders, and energy independence.

“Our primaries should reflect Republican values—not outside interference,” George continued. “The grassroots are demanding action, and the SREC is delivering. We are putting Texas Republicans back in charge of Texas Republican elections.”

The Republican Party of Texas urges elected officials and conservative allies to stand with us and support this mandate—through litigation and leadership.

Only Republicans should pick Republican nominees. That’s how we protect our platform, our values, and our future. Texas is red. Let’s keep it that way—by keeping our primaries red.
