This week, the Republican Party of Texas hosted a lunch for Grassroots Club members with Special Guest and fellow Grassroots Club member, U.S. Senator John Cornyn. This event was a great opportunity for supporters of the RPT to spend time with Senator Cornyn – who also serves as the Minority Whip in the U.S. Senate, where he was recently ranked the Senate’s 2nd most conservative member.

Cornyn

With a packed crowd, Chairman Munisteri opened the lunch by thanking all of our Grassroots Club members for their participation, reminding them of the purpose of the Club, which is to finance the daily operations of the RPT while reducing fundraising expenses. He then introduced Senator Cornyn and thanked him for his continued support of the Republican Party of Texas. He informed members that when Steve was first elected RPT Chairman, Senator Cornyn invited a few party leaders for lunch to ask them how he could help their efforts to rebuild the Republican Party of Texas. Senator Cornyn has not let up since. Every time the RPT asks for help, Senator Cornyn delivers, often without us asking.

Senator Cornyn delivered remarks regarding the importance of the Grassroots Club and the work done at the Republican Party of Texas by both Chairman Munisteri and staff. He mentioned his support of the organization because he “wants to be a part of the commitment to our candidates”. Following formal remarks, Senator Cornyn answered questions from the group, including many on the sequester and budget. Senator Cornyn criticized President Obama for using scare tactics with the American public about the impacts of the sequester and exaggerating its impact. Senator Cornyn further explained that the sequester is a 2.4% cut in the growth of government, as opposed to the real 2% cut that all taxpayers had to make with their payroll tax increase at the beginning of the year. Members walked away from the event confident that our Republican leadership has drawn a line in the sand when it comes to federal spending, and that line is spending reform.

RPT Chairman Munisteri and staff received nothing but positive comments from attendees regarding the lunch and the many benefits of Grassroots Club membership, including removal from all RPT phone and mail fundraising solicitations:

Naomi Narvaiz, “I am very happy to help grow the Grassroots Club. It is a smart investment that not only supports our Party but also helps its efforts to operate responsibly.

Donna Garcia Davidson, "I really appreciate Chairman Munisteri and his commitment to the grassroots. This was a great event to ensure communication between the grassroots as the foundation of our Party and our officeholders!"

I am glad to be part of the Grassroots Club and be able to join the conversations with our elected officials to hear firsthand the progress of the important issues of the day. The membership is a small investment and helps our Party operate responsibly.”

Bob Green, “Nice talk and honest answers to some serious questions from the attendees. I sat right across a small table from the Senator and had a nice discussion on several topics before he spoke.”

The Republican Party of Texas would like to thank not only Senator Cornyn but all of our Grassroots Club members who were able to attend. And, for those who were not able to attend, we hope to see you at another event in the near future.
