Urgent Calls to Action: SB 75 & SB 1798

Border Enforcement: SB 1798 by Senator Mayes Middleton relates to the resident status, tuition rates, certain financial support, and certain documentation requirements for students enrolled at public institutions of higher education, including students not lawfully present in the United States. This Border Enforcement bill is being heard today on the Senate floor! There is still time to let your Senator know to SUPPORT SB 1798!

Secure the Grid: SB 75 by Senator Bob Hall establishes the Texas Grid Security Commission to evaluate and recommend resilience standards for the state’s electric grid against natural and man-made threats. It includes provisions for assessing critical infrastructure, supporting micro-grid development, and preparing annual reports on grid resilience. The bill mandates the development of a comprehensive plan to address hazards and improve grid security​. Placed on General State Calendar tomorrow (5/20). Please contact your House Member and ensure that this critical ‘Secure the Grid’ legislation is passed in the Texas House!

SB 16

SB 16 by Senator Bryan Hughes tightens Texas voter registration by requiring strict citizenship verification. Voters must submit official documents proving U.S. citizenship when registering. County registrars will cross-check citizenship through government databases, with non-verified applicants limited to federal election ballots. The bill establishes criminal penalties for voter registration fraud and mandates AG investigations of unverified registrations.

SB 16 has passed the Senate and now the House Committee on Calendars has it and needs to set it for a vote on the floor. Call Calendars today and ask them to place it asap.

SB 310  

SB 310 by Senator Bryan Hughes is one of our Secure Texas Elections bills. It prohibits the use of preferential voting systems for determining majority votes in public or political party elections. It specifies that a candidate must receive more than half of the originally cast votes to be elected or nominated, without reassigning votes through ranking systems​.

Call the House Calendars Committee and ask them to place it for a vote on the floor as soon as possible!!

SB 1789                                                  

SB 1789 by Senator Charles Schwertner enhances electric service reliability by setting stricter performance standards for electric utilities. It prohibits utilities from receiving a return on equity for infrastructure repairs if regulators determine the damage was reasonably foreseeable. The bill also strengthens enforcement measures for utilities with excessive service interruptions and requires the Public Utility Commission to adopt structural integrity standards for transmission and distribution poles​.

SB 1789 is one of our Secure the Electric Grid Priority Bills. It has been voted out of State Affairs and is in the House Calendars committee. Call them today and let them know we need this bill set it for a vote on the floor!

SB 1067

SB 1067 by Senator Mayes Middleton bans public colleges/universities and their staff from accepting funds from foreign governments, parties, or companies based in countries identified as security threats in three consecutive U.S. Intelligence assessments. Previously received funds must be returned, with enforcement by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

SB 1067 has been heard in Higher Education but has not been voted out of committee. Call Chairman Terry Wilson and tell him we need this to be voted out of committee asap!

SB 2681

SB 2681 by Senator Bettencourt. This bill establishes more stringent criteria for third-party voter registration challenges, mandating that individuals initiating voter eligibility disputes must substantiate their claims with direct personal observation or concrete, verifiable evidence. The legislation is designed to prevent unsubstantiated or politically driven attempts to challenge voter registrations, ensuring that electoral challenges are based on legitimate and provable concerns.

It has passed the Senate and been referred to the House Committee on Elections but has not received a hearing. Call Chairman Matt Shaheen and ask for a hearing today!

HB 2279

HB 2279 by Representative Mike Schofield is one of our Secure Texas Elections Priority Bills. It amends the Election Code to mandate immediate voter registration cancellation when an individual officially declares non-U.S. citizenship. The bill adds this circumstance to existing grounds for voter registration removal and requires notifying the voter and reporting cancellations to the Secretary of State.

It is in Calendars Committee and needs to be set for a floor vote. Call them today and ask for it to move asap.
