Congressman Bill Flores Announces He Will Not Seek Re-Election

AUSTIN, TX – Today, Congressman Bill Flores announced he will not seek re-election for Texas’ 17th Congressional District. Congressman Flores was elected to Congress in November 2010, defeating a twenty-year Democrat incumbent. He currently serves on the House Energy & Commerce Committee and is the House Republican Leader’s designee to the House Budget Committee. During the 114th session, Congressman Flores was elected to chair the Republican Study Committee (RSC). Under his leadership, the RSC grew to its largest membership, making it the largest caucus in Congress.

Following his retirement announcement, Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“Congressman Flores served the people of Texas’ 17th Congressional District with aptitude and a constituent driven focus. During his tenure in Congress, he successfully steered the largest conservative caucus in the House of Representatives, the Republican Study Committee. While his experience and leadership will be missed in Congress, we look forward to his involvement in electing another qualified Republican to represent CD 17.”
