Precinct Conventions
Who: Anyone who votes in the 2026 Republican Primary or signs an oath of affiliation at the precinct convention can participate in their 2026 precinct convention.
What: The precinct convention serves as the initial step in the political convention process. Typically, the precinct chair calls the convention to order, but in their absence, any participant can initiate the meeting. There’s no minimum attendance requirement for a precinct convention; even if you’re the sole participant, you can still convene it. The general rules for conventions (RPT Rule Nos. 10-18A), Precinct Convention (RPT Rule Nos. 19-22), County/Senate District Convention (RPT Rule Nos. 23-32) may be found in Republican Party of Texas Rules.
When: Precinct conventions are organized by the county parties.
Where: To find your 2026 Precinct Convention location, contact your county party. Reach out to your county chair for details about the convention’s date and location. For the convention to be valid, all completed paperwork must be submitted to the county Republican party within two to three days after the precinct convention.
Why: The precinct convention is the first step towards the state convention. During the convention, participants elect permanent convention officers, usually a convention chair and secretary. They then elect delegates and alternates to the county or state convention. Finally, they deliberate and vote on any resolutions presented by participants.
